Chairs and Benches

As well as making beautiful handmade rocking chairs, I also make other types of seating. Memorial benches, dining chairs, bar stools and foot stools are all items of seating which I have made before.

Here are some pictures of various types of seating which I have made in the past. If you see anything you like here, I can make it again for you, or change it slightly to suit your needs.

Designing a chair is so hard! Almost every shape of chair has already been made at some point and making something which is elegant, comfortable and unique is a huge challenge. You tell me what you want and I will work with you to make you a stunning chair.

Oak stools

These two oak stools were made specifically slightly different for the customer. His and hers.
They are based on the classic CH24 chair designed by Hans Wegner. Modified to fit the customer's requirements.
They are made from local oak and made to fit under a kitchen island which I also made.

English Elm Stools

Two sizes of the same design elm stool.
There are no straight lines on this stool! But it is designed in such a way so that it is scalable to the size that you want. From bar stool to foot stool. Either work!

Oak Boot Bench

Designed for storing boot and trainers and giving somewhere to sit to put them on.
The bench is 2m long and 430mm wide. The top shelf is designed to take trainers and the bottom shelf walking boots. It is made from local Cumbrian Brown Oak. Just look at the grain in that top.

Oak stool with wishbone back

This stool is based on the classic wishbone design by Hans Wegner.

Ash Chair

A dressing table chair designed during my course at Waters and Acland. It's inspiration is from the shape of a sail.
The back and seat are both made from coopered slats of wood joined together to form a satisfying and comfortable curve.

Ash Dining Chair

Designed based on the Ash dressing table chair, but with stronger legs and larger seat and back.
Always the problem with making a dining chair is that you don't know who may sit in it. So you have to plan for someone heavy!

Small Child's Chair

This chair is made to be a desk chair for a child. The seat height is 35cm. It is made from local cherry and has hexagonal legs. There is a butterfly carved into the headrest.

Oak Stool

Similar in design to the classic wishbone design chair seen above, but back has slats like my rocking chairs.

Memorial Bench

Made from entirely from local air dried oak. The inscription is carved into the back rest.

Larch Memorial Bench

Made from local cumbrian larch and in a park in Grasmere in the Lake District.

Oak Rocking Chair

English Elm Bar Stool

Sturdy and yet very light. There are curves all over this stool.

Reclaimed Elm Milking Stool

This lovely traditional milking stool perhaps too nice to use in the milking parlour!
Hexagonal legs and through mortice and tenons on the seat. Made to last!

Reclaimed Elm Foot Stool

A foot stool is something every house should have at least one of. Good for sitting on to put your boots on, standing on to get something off a high shelf, or just resting your feet on after a long day.
